Colonial Theater Remediation

Beacon is assisting the Augusta Colonial Theater with oversight of the removal of coal ash and asbestos from the basement of a former theater on Water Street in Augusta.  Our President has been involved with the property since 2008 having done a Phase I and Phase II on the property previously.  We are excited to see this project move forward.  Call us if you need assistance getting your environmental issues resolved.

Oil Spill Investigation

Beacon was contacted to assist in the investigation to determine if oil could be recovered from an accident between a fuel oil delivery truck and a logging truck in Chain of Ponds Township, Maine.  Over 1,000 gallons of a mix of diesel and heating oil could not be recovered when the accident first occurred.  Through the use of a Geoprobe we determined that the oil appeared to be pooled within backfill material.  A recovery well was installed and the next

Beacon awarded a new project by MEDEP

Beacon was just notified that we have been awarded a Brownfields investigation at a former mill site in Lisbon, Maine by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (MEDEP).  We are extremely excited to assist this community with this property that is stuck in bankruptcy.

Maine Resources Brownfields Project

Beacon was awarded a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment investigation of the former Maine Resources Tannery facility in Brooks, Maine by the Maine DEP.  Beacon investigated a former landfill, former lagoons and the area around the former factory using Geoprobe direct push technology.  Once analytical results are obtained, Beacon will develop a Feasibility Study to deal with any impacts on the property to assist the small town with potential redevelopment.

Bayside Brownfields Projects

Beacon is pleased to be assisting the City of Portland with 5 Phase II Environmental Site Assessments in the Bayside neighborhood.  All five of the properties are City-owned Department of Pubic Works facilities and will be transformed by new owners with dynamic new uses.  Funding for these projects is being provided by the Maine DEP through a 128A Brownfields Grant from the USEPA.  To learn more about the Brownfields program click on this link: http://www.epa.gov/brownfields
