Maectite Amendment of Dredge Spoils

Beacon was contracted to oversee the amending of lead-contaminated dredge spoils in Southwest Harbor, Maine.  We developed a work plan for the MEDEP to review and comment and received their approval.  Over the course of four days, Beacon oversaw the placement of impacted soils into a rolloff container and mixed with Maectite liquid to bind the lead to the soil making it unleachable and non-hazardous in accordance with USEPA TCLP analysis.  The soils will be disposed of at a licensed

Brownfields Investigation

Beacon was selected by the MEDEP to complete an investigation of a former circuit board manufacturing facility in Sanford, Maine. We completed a Quality Assurance Project Plan prior to conducting the fieldwork. We oversaw the installation of ten monitoring wells and completed soil and groundwater sampling. Once the analytical results were received we completed the Phase II Environmental Site Assessment Report and an Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives to determine the most cost effective cleanup option for the property. Beacon assisted the Maine Army National Guard with petroleum-impacted soil removal

Beacon was awarded a contract with the Maine Army National Guard (MEARNG) to oversee the removal of soil that had been impacted by an oil spill within their boiler room.  As the soil was beneath a boiler, Beacon subcontracted to have the boiler moved, the concrete floor removed and then oversaw the removal of impacted soil with a vactor.  We then oversaw the placement of crushed stone, a vapor barrier, concrete, and movement and refiring of the boiler.

Maine Resources Brownfields Project

Beacon was awarded a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment investigation of the former Maine Resources Tannery facility in Brooks, Maine by the Maine DEP.  Beacon investigated a former landfill, former lagoons and the area around the former factory using Geoprobe direct push technology.  Once analytical results are obtained, Beacon will develop a Feasibility Study to deal with any impacts on the property to assist the small town with potential redevelopment.

Mercury Spill Sampling

Beacon is assisting with wipe and air sampling in conjunction with the response at a residence to a large mercury spill in New Hampshire.  Approximately 4 pounds of elemental Mercury was accidentally released to a basement when a bottle was dropped on the floor.  A response contractor completed the cleanup and brought in Beacon to complete the post remediation sampling.  We are willing to travel to complete sampling to assist in remediation activities.  Call us or email us with your
