Soil Sampling Under Bridges

Beacon completed a Soil and Erosion Control Plan and soil sampling prior to the blasting and repainting of two bridges in Yarmouth, Maine on behalf of a painting contractor.  The Maine DOT had special requirements based on the two bridges being located over the Pleasant River.  Sampling was performed using a hand auger and once the project is done, Beacon will go out and collect post painting samples to determine if lead impacts occurred during this phase of the work.

Chinet Groundwood Mill

Beacon is currently assisting the Maine DEP with the determination and disposal planning of building materials at this former mill property contaminated with Polychlorinated Biphenyls in painted substrates.  This Brownfield site is currently owned by the Maine IF&W as a boat launch.

Irving Tannery Annex Parcel 2

Beacon provided environmental oversight of an underground storage tank and petroleum-impacted soil removal as a portion of a Brownfields Remediation project.       The property had previously been used as a vegetable canning facility, frozen vegetable manufacturing facility, and leather tanning facility.  It has been vacant since 2012 and through bankruptcy, no owner was present within the community.  Vandalism and crime were rampant on the property as the Site sits far off the main roadway with no one paying attention to

Carlson Residence Investigation, Milo, Maine

Beacon completed a day of geologic oversight of soil borings at a residence in Milo, Maine.  An overfill of an on-site above ground storage tank resulted in the release of kerosene which migrated toward a stream.  The Maine DEP responded and provided temporary response efforts to stop the continued migration of the kerosene.  Unfortunately, the kerosene appeared to have made it to the stream.  In order to determine the extent of the potential impacts, the Maine DEP requested that a

Bayside Country Store, Northport, Maine

Beacon was contracted to oversee the removal of two 6,000-gallon underground storage tanks at a convenience store and gasoline station with a history of impacted soil and groundwater. In December 2016, Beacon was on-site to perform field testing and soil sampling for analytical requirements as required by the Maine DEP.  A member of Maine DEP’s Response Services Unit was on-site to assist in determination of response procedures and it was determined that impacts were not discovered related to these USTs
